Hundreds of tattoo artists flock to Virginia Beach, Virginia for the city’s annual tattoo festival.
This year, the festival might be in jeopardy as the health department of the city plans to charge a permit fee. The fee in question will be based on the number of artists who will join the said activity.
Currently, artists from out of the state are obligated to cough up $75 for their temporary license. With the proposed charge, tattoo artists who will be working for five or fewer days will be subjected to the fee.
John Cann, the event’s organizer explained that he is already spending about $60,000 per year to organize the only tattoo festival in the city. The additional cost will only increase the operational expense and might even put an end to the event.
